Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy (FNAB)
A minimally invasive diagnostic procedure in which a fine needle removes cells from a thyroid nodule under ultrasound guidance.
FNAB is the gold standard for determining whether a thyroid nodule is benign or malignant. Ultrasound guidance improves accuracy and reduces the risk of complications.
The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology (categories I–VI) standardises results. Indeterminate findings (Bethesda III–IV) may require molecular testing or diagnostic lobectomy.
