Septoplasty
A functional surgical procedure that corrects the deviated septum to improve nasal airflow without altering the external appearance of the nose.
Septoplasty is performed by elevating mucoperichondrial and mucoperiosteal flaps and reshaping the deviated cartilage and bone portions. The external nasal appearance is preserved.
The procedure is usually completed under general anaesthesia in 45–60 minutes. Packing is rarely used with modern protocols; silicone splints remain in place for 7–10 days. Improvement in breathing becomes noticeable within a few weeks.
