Deviated Septum
A condition in which the cartilage and bone wall dividing the nasal cavity is displaced to one side, causing nasal obstruction.
Deviation may be congenital or result from trauma. Mild cases may be asymptomatic, while severe deviation can cause chronic obstruction, snoring, recurrent sinusitis and sleep disturbance.
Treatment is septoplasty or septorhinoplasty. Medical therapy (corticosteroid spray) can relieve symptoms but does not correct the anatomical problem.
