Oral Cavity Cancer
Malignant tumour developing in the oral cavity, including the lip, tongue, floor of mouth, palate and buccal mucosa.
Tobacco, alcohol and HPV are the main risk factors. A non-healing mouth sore, red-white patch (erythroleukoplakia) and swelling are early warning signs.
Early-stage oral cavity cancer is treated with primary surgical resection; advanced disease adds neck dissection and adjuvant radiochemotherapy. Function preservation (speech, swallowing) is a primary surgical goal.
