Menière's Disease
A chronic vestibular disorder characterised by endolymphatic hydrops, with episodic vertigo, fluctuating hearing loss and tinnitus.
Menière's disease attacks last between minutes and hours; nausea and vomiting may accompany. Permanent low-frequency hearing loss may develop over time.
Salt restriction, diuretics, betahistine and, when needed, intratympanic gentamicin or steroid injection are treatment options. Endolymphatic sac surgery or labyrinthectomy is considered in refractory cases.
