Tympanoplasty
Surgical repair of the tympanic membrane (eardrum) and/or reconstruction of the middle ear ossicles.
Tympanic membrane perforation can result from chronic otitis media, trauma or ventilation tube complications. Temporal fascia or tragal cartilage is typically used as graft material.
Type I tympanoplasty covers membrane repair only; types III–IV involve ossicular chain reconstruction. Successful repair reduces ear discharge, improves hearing and restores the protective barrier.
