Nasal Valve
The narrowest cross-sectional area of the nasal passage; divided into internal and external valves, it determines most of nasal airflow resistance.
The internal nasal valve is formed by the angle between the upper lateral cartilage and the septum; the optimal angle is approximately 10–15°. The external nasal valve relates to nasal tip shape and alar cartilage support.
Nasal valve insufficiency is one of the most common causes of nasal obstruction. Surgical correction is possible using spreader grafts, alar rim grafts or suture techniques.
