Laryngoscopy
A diagnostic procedure in which the larynx (voice box) is visualised using direct or endoscopic methods.
Indirect laryngoscopy (mirror or flexible fibreoptic camera) is performed in outpatient examination; it assesses vocal cord movement and mucosal changes. Videostroboscopy images the vocal cord vibration profile in slow motion during phonation.
Direct laryngoscopy and microlaryngoscopy are performed under general anaesthesia for both diagnosis and surgical treatment (polypectomy, nodule excision). The rigid laryngoscope provides broader visualisation.
