Turbinoplasty (Turbinate Reduction)
A surgical procedure that reduces the size of enlarged nasal turbinates to improve airflow.
Inferior turbinate hypertrophy is common in allergic rhinitis or chronic rhinitis. Turbinate volume can be reduced by submucosal resection, radiofrequency ablation or microdebrider.
Turbinoplasty is usually combined with septoplasty or FESS. Excessive turbinate resection can lead to complications such as empty nose syndrome, so a conservative approach is recommended.
