Diagnosing Sudden Hearing Loss
Diagnosis is supported when pure-tone audiometry shows a clinically significant sensorineural loss across adjacent frequencies. Cerumen impaction, middle ear fluid and otosclerosis should be excluded in differential diagnosis; tympanometry is therefore part of routine assessment.
